I just love the Theatre Zingaro. If you ever get a chance to see it you must.
I will be posting all the information you will need for Theatre Zingaro including Theatre Zingaro Ticket information, Theatre Zingaro Shedules, Theatre Zingaro in the News.
In 1976 Bartabas and with some friends, one of them been the woman who would later Bartabas would marry, created the commedia dell’arte troupe Théâtre Emporté, which evolved into Cirque Aligre. 1984 Bartabas created the equestrian Théâtre Zingaro, which developed a passionate following through France and Asia.
Bartabas’ name the Theatre company after his cherished horse and muse whom he owned for more than 20 years until it passed.
“Zingaro” is has Spanish and Italian roots which means “gypsy.”
1989, Théâtre Zingaro created its home in the town of Aubervilliers, France, a little north of Paris. 45 company members live together and included their spouses, partners and children in a kind of nomad village, with a performance space, living quarters and animals.
Beautiful stables hold the company’s 30 or more horses, they receive round-the-clock care in these stable. The horses have names of great artists, including as Nijinsky, Goya, Picasso and Nureyev. The Theatre Zinagro horses are chosen for their spirit and personalities not by breed or lineage.
Bartabas searches the world for performers who interest him with raw and unusual talents. The Performers are not professional “circus” people – they are horsemen and women, dancers, artists and musicians who actively pursue this ruggedly romantic, natural lifestyle.
A few years go into creating a new production, such as Triptyk. When a production has completed touring, the Theatre Zingaro horses are retired from performance and different horses are sought for the new production.
